Adopting a child should be such an exciting and joyous time in your life, but the adoption process itself can be daunting and stressful. While you may not understand all of the rules and regulations in the adoption process, we do. We are here to assist you from beginning to end. We will file all of the necessary paperwork with the Court to get the adoption process started, including guardianship paperwork if this is necessary, and will follow the adoption through until it is final. While each adoption is different, there is usually a six-month waiting period from the date that you obtain custody of the child until your adoption can be finalized, but this waiting period may be waived in certain cases, such as a step-parent adoption. There are also usually home study visits required by licensed child-placing agencies. Also, biological parental rights must either be surrendered or terminated, depending on the situation.
